Process
What actually happens during a bathroom fit
Stage by stage, what to expect in your home while the bathroom is being built.
People worry less about the finished room than about the fortnight before it. Dust, noise, strangers in the house and not knowing what happens next.
So here is the process we follow, in the order it happens, with the bits nobody mentions until you are living through them.
Before we arrive
Products are checked as delivered and stored somewhere sensible. We agree parking, access, working hours and where waste will be stacked. We ask you to clear the bathroom completely and empty the airing cupboard if it is in scope.
Protecting the house
Floors on the route in and out are covered and doorways sheeted where dust would travel. This is unglamorous work but it is the difference between a bathroom job and a whole house clean.
Strip out day
The loudest day. Tiles come off, fittings come out and the room goes back to brick, block or stud. We isolate water only for as long as needed and reinstate the toilet as early as we can.
The invisible middle
Pipework alterations, floor preparation, boarding, plastering and tanking. Quiet, undramatic days when it can look like little is happening. Every one of them is a reason your tiles will still be sound in ten years.
Tiling and fitting
Setting out, wall tiles, floor tiles, grouting, then sanitaryware, screens and brassware. From here you finally see the room you agreed on the drawing.
Handover
Everything is tested under running water, sealed, cleaned and walked through with you. We tell you when the shower can be used and leave you the details of what was installed.
Questions
Frequently asked
Do I need to be at home while you work?
Not the whole time. We agree access with you and Martin keeps you updated on progress.
How bad is the dust?
Strip out day is dusty. With sheeting and protected routes the rest of the house stays largely unaffected.
Will the water be off?
Only for short controlled periods, and we tell you in advance so you can fill a kettle.
Who removes the old bathroom?
We do. Removal and disposal are included in the quotation.
What if something is damaged in transit?
We check deliveries early for exactly that reason, so a replacement can be ordered before it holds up the fitting stage.
